Coordinating a collaborative and comprehensive approach to poverty reduction to transform lives and help families thrive.

Serving a five-county area including Boone, Dekalb, Ogle, Stephenson & Winnebago Counties.

At Bridges to Prosperity Northern Illinois, we've realized that lasting change requires addressing the root causes of poverty, not just alleviating its symptoms. Our approach to poverty reduction encompasses all aspects from providing individuals a way to build stability, to providing local organizations with tools to create better outcomes, to our work at the community and policy level improving cooperation and systems.

In partnership with agencies, nonprofits and our faith community, we are rethinking our approach to poverty to create better communities, purposefully moving from intention to impact. It takes all of us working together to make a difference. Learn more about our work below:

Getting Ahead Classes

Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By World is a curriculum that helps individuals in poverty build their resources for a more prosperous life for themselves, their families, and their communities.  The program guides participants through the process of assessing their own lives and circumstances and teaches them how to build those resources and how to develop tools and skills as part of their move to self-sufficiency.

Upward Mobility

Reducing poverty is not something that any government,
institution or group of agencies can accomplish on their own.
Ultimately, poverty reduction is the whole community’s
responsibility. Using the Upward Mobility Framework created by Urban Institute, we help build cross-sector teams that can plan, advocate for and implement a set of systems changes focused on bringing all members of our community out of poverty and creating more equitable results.

Poverty Reduction Workshops

Poverty Reduction Workshops are available to be hosted at your organization for professional development of your staff, board and stakeholders. The sessions contain case studies, simple exercises, testimonials and real solutions.  The series of Workshops will change the way you view poverty forever and provide you with tools and strategies to implement within your organization and community.
